Safer Internet Day 2026
2nd Feb 2026
This Year’s Theme: “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI”
The 2026 theme focuses on helping children understand how artificial intelligence appears in their digital lives and how to use it thoughtfully and safely. It highlights the importance of being aware of how AI tools such as voice assistants, chatbots and algorithms work, and how to make safe and responsible choices when using them online.
How We Will Celebrate in School
- Primary 4 and Primary 5 will be taking part in a live webinar, helping them learn more about online safety and how to make smart choices when using technology.
- Across the school, pupils will take part in activities linked to the theme, including:
- Discussions about how AI works in everyday apps and tools
- Age?appropriate lessons on recognising trustworthy information
- Activities on keeping personal information private
- Classroom tasks exploring the difference between humans and AI tools (e.g., voice assistants)
- Rules for using AI in our school
