Pumpkin Carving Fun in Primary 4 & 5!
Mrs Connor’s Primary 4 and 5 pupils had a spook-tacular time getting into the Halloween spirit with a hands-on pumpkin carving activity! The classroom was buzzing with excitement as the children rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into scooping out the seeds from their pumpkins — a messy but thrilling start to the creative process.
Once the pumpkins were hollowed out, each child carefully carved a scary face into their pumpkin, showing off their imaginative designs and fine motor skills. To complete their masterpieces, they placed battery-operated candles inside, creating a glowing, eerie effect perfect for Halloween night. The children were delighted to take their pumpkins home and proudly display them to family and friends.
This activity wasn’t just about seasonal fun — it tied in beautifully with their learning in literacy. As part of their instructional writing unit, the children followed step-by-step guides to carve their pumpkins safely and effectively. They also discussed and wrote their own instructions, reinforcing their understanding of sequencing, clarity, and purpose in writing.
Well done to all the pupils for their creativity, teamwork, and fantastic writing skills. What a brilliant way to combine learning with festive fun!
