Exploring the Mourne Mountains in Primary 4 & 5

This term, our enthusiastic Primary 4 and 5 pupils have been diving into the fascinating world of geography through their World Around Us topic — the Mourne Mountains!

The children have been learning all about this stunning mountain range located in County Down, Northern Ireland. From discovering how the mountains were formed to exploring the wildlife and habitats found there, it's been a journey full of curiosity and wonder.

Here are two fun facts the pupils have enjoyed learning:

  • Slieve Donard is the highest peak in the Mourne Mountains, standing tall at 850 meters!
  •  The Mourne Mountains are the source of the Silent Valley Reservoir, which supplies water to much of County Down and Belfast.

We are also celebrating a special moment of pride in Primary 5 — one of our pupils is beaming with joy because her mum, Mrs Warnock, has impressively climbed both Slieve Binnian and Slieve Lamagan! To mark her achievement, Mrs Warnock was presented with two amazing medals, which we all were very impressed by. What an inspiring connection to our learning! What an inspiring achievement and a wonderful connection to our learning.

Well done to all our young geographers — we can’t wait to see where your learning takes you next!
