Mental Health Awareness Week – Take Action

6th May 2026

Next week marks Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year’s theme is “Action.”

Supporting good mental health comes through everyday acts of care — whether that is taking time for ourselves, showing kindness to others, or simply checking in with how we feel. Small actions really can make a big difference.

With 50% of mental health issues beginning before the age of 14, it is more important than ever that we provide children with the tools, support, and understanding they need to manage their emotions and navigate challenges early, before they escalate.

Throughout next week, our pupils will be taking part in a range of engaging activities across the school, all carefully linked to the theme of “Action” — encouraging children to take positive steps to support their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. These will include:

  • Mindfulness and relaxation sessions – taking action to calm the mind and manage emotions
  • Circle time discussions – taking action by talking about feelings and listening to others
  • Acts of kindness challenges – taking action to support and uplift others
  • Outdoor activities and active play – taking action to boost physical and mental health
  • Gratitude exercises – taking action to focus on the positives in daily life
  • Creative activities such as drawing and journaling – taking action to express thoughts and emotions

During Mental Health Awareness Week, we are encouraging everyone in our school community to take one positive action to support mental wellbeing.

Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting children’s emotional health and wellbeing. We encourage you to explore the following helpful resource for guidance and support:

Together, by taking small, meaningful actions, we can help build a positive and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and heard.
