Primary 4 and 5 had a sweet and educational treat this week as they teamed up with our wonderful work experience students Danny and Katie to make cupcakes — all linked to our English learning on instructional writing!
The children followed a clear set of instructions to make their delicious buns, using ingredients like flour, eggs, water, and oil. They worked step-by-step, reading and following each part of the recipe carefully — just like we’ve been learning to do in class when writing instructions.
To make the activity even more exciting, we linked it to a theme that’s captured the children’s imagination: Taylor Swift! A life-size Taylor Swift watched over the baking process, and once the cupcakes were baked, the children decorated them with chocolate or vanilla icing — and for the best part… Taylor Swift cupcake toppers!
A huge thank you to Danny for bringing in all the amazing Taylor Swift merchandise, and to both Danny and Katie for their fantastic help and enthusiasm throughout the activity. The children had a brilliant time learning, baking, and decorating — and we all enjoyed a tasty treat at the end!
