P4 and P5 Enjoying The BFG in Literacy
Mrs Connor’s P4 and P5 class have been having a wonderful time reading The BFG by Roald Dahl. This much-loved story follows the adventures of Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant as they journey through Giant Country, collecting dreams and facing some rather frightening giants along the way. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this class novel and have especially loved all of the BFG’s hilarious muddled-up words and phrases, which have provided plenty of laughter during our reading sessions!
Inspired by the story, the class created some amazing dream catchers and their very own dream jars. Using their creativity and artistic skills, the children designed colourful and imaginative pieces of work that reflected the magical world of dreams found within the novel.
The literacy activities linked to The BFG have been equally impressive. The children explored the abundant use of adjectives throughout the story and used them to create and describe their own unique giants. They carefully selected powerful and interesting vocabulary to bring their characters to life. The class also produced fantastic drawings of the Bloodbottler, paying close attention to the descriptions from the text.
One of the most exciting tasks was creating their own ending to the story. The children showed incredible imagination and creativity as they adapted the tale and developed their own ideas for how Sophie and the BFG’s adventure might conclude. Their writing demonstrated excellent storytelling skills and a real understanding of the characters and plot.
Mrs. Connor’s P4 and P5 class have worked extremely hard throughout this topic and should be very proud of all they have achieved. They have shown great enthusiasm, creativity and effort in every activity and have had an amazing time exploring The BFG through literacy. Well done, everyone!
