Aódhan & Buddy Visit Our School!
We had a fantastic and educational visit from Aódhan, a physiotherapist, who brought along his skeleton friend Buddy to help teach us all about the human skeleton!
The children were fascinated to learn that the human body has 206 bones — although babies are born with around 270 bones, which gradually fuse together as they grow. We discovered that the longest bone in the body is the femur (thigh bone), and the smallest is the stapes in the ear!
Aódhan explained how our skeleton is not just for structure — it also protects vital organs:
- The skull protects the brain ?
- The rib cage protects the heart and lungs ???
- The spine protects the spinal cord ?
We also learned what happens when a bone breaks — it’s called a fracture, and depending on the type, it can take weeks or even months to heal. Aódhan showed us how physiotherapists help people recover and regain strength after injuries.
The children loved meeting Buddy and asked brilliant questions. A huge thank you to Aódhan for making learning about bones so fun and memorable!
