Primary 4–7 Pupils Engage with NICCY Webinar on Children's Rights

6th Nov 2025

We are delighted to share a recent learning experience that has inspired and empowered our Primary 4–7 pupils. As part of our ongoing commitment to the Being Well, Doing Well programme, one of our key targets this year is to explore the Rights of the Child—and our pupils have been doing just that in a truly meaningful way.

Recently, our pupils participated in a live webinar hosted by NICCY (Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People). The focus of the session was the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC, 1989). The webinar featured Chris Quinn, the Children’s Commissioner, who spoke passionately about the importance of children's rights and answered questions submitted by pupils from across Northern Ireland.

This experience was particularly special for our Primary 7 pupils, who had the unique opportunity to meet Commissioner Quinn in person earlier this term during a visit to Newcastle. That meeting sparked a deep interest in the UNCRC and led to a school-wide initiative to learn more about the articles of the Convention—from the right to education and play, to the right to be heard and protected.

The webinar built on this momentum, allowing pupils to hear directly from the Commissioner and see how their voices matter. It also reinforced the values we are promoting through the Being Well, Doing Well programme, helping children understand how their rights support their wellbeing, safety, and development.

We are incredibly proud of how engaged and thoughtful our pupils have been throughout this journey. Their curiosity and commitment to learning about their rights is a testament to the power of real-world learning and meaningful connections.

We look forward to continuing this important work and sharing more updates with you as our pupils explore what it means to be informed, empowered, and respected young citizens.
